The emerging field of regenerative biology and medicine involves defining the natural processes by which organisms regenerate damaged tissues and organs, and applying that knowledge to medical therapies. The MBL, with its longstanding strengths in genomics and marine organism husbandry—and an unparalleled climate of creative, collaborative inquiry—is ideally positioned to build knowledge that will change the science of life. No one knows what might come of this burgeoning field—and that energizes us. Important projects are already underway, and campaign giving is necessary to speed progress. The next breakthrough just might change lives throughout the world.
